Last week, KKR Vets @ Work hosted our annual in-person event for participating portfolio companies*, strengthening our efforts to connect veterans with successful careers. This event is part of KKR’s efforts to promote veteran-focused career development and support retention practices at our U.S.-based private equity portfolio companies. Since 2011, 50 portfolio companies have hired more than 77,600 veterans and military spouses.
On October 16th, human resources professionals gathered in Nashville, Tennessee for a networking reception and dinner to discuss, learn, and share best practices. General (Ret.) David Petraeus and Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Marvin Hill held a fireside chat focused on encouraging companies to be “veteran-ready, not just veteran-friendly.”
On October 17th, the group headed to Fort Campbell, the United States Army base home to the 101st Airborne Division, to attend a KKR-sponsored Military Hiring Fair. Approximately 1,030 job seekers attended this event during which KKR portfolio companies, among 100 others, met with talented soldiers, veterans, and military spouses; we’re proud to foster opportunities for these strong candidates, and believe their expertise can in turn strengthen our companies.
General (Ret.) David Petraeus and Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Marvin Hill delivered opening remarks emphasizing the importance of investing in our veterans and their families, both to contribute to strong workforce development and to harness the power of their unique expertise and abilities.
Prior to the event, General (Ret.) David Petraeus commented on the hiring fair emphasizing, “…the companies present understand that what veterans want is not just a job opportunity; they want a career opportunity. And the companies realize that such an opportunity entails more than just hiring a veteran; a career opportunity includes investment in the veteran (or military spouse) through job training, professional education, mentoring and support through veterans groups in the firm.”
We are committed to providing such opportunities to our portfolio companies and proud of their efforts and progress.
*Participating current and former portfolio companies included Academy Sports + Outdoors, American Medical Response (AMR), BrightSpring Health Services (Adoration Health, ResCare Workforce Services), Channel Control Merchants (CCM), Covenant Surgical Partners, Envision Healthcare, GeoStabilization International, Gibson Brands, HCA Healthcare, PURE Insurance Group, The Nature’s Bounty Co., and US Foods.
